Radio Station KIBS Canton Island Studio Building

This vintage Kodachrome Transparency dates from around 1952. Radio Station KIBS provided entertainment on isolated Canton Island for the staff of the mid-ocean jet re-fuelling stop for trans-Pacific passenger flights. At the time, Canton Island was jointly administered by the UK and USA. a variety of low power AM radio stations have broadcast from Canton since the original AFRS station in WWII. We prefer to use environmentally sustainable goods and services where we can afford to, and we provide free community access worldwide to our collections, published research, preservation and promotion activities in a completely paper-free environment.
