WEEKLY NEWS REVIEW PRESENTS SUM AND SUBSTANCE - PERIOD
Every station of the "Jungle Network'' now carries a weekly news review or has one in the works.
Additional to the daily newscasts, the review is without the excitement of the home radio commentator - and without the comment. It is solid straightforward news - a recapitulation, not a speculation.
In each news review series, I & E - has been and is the chief quartermaster supplying material through the Army News Service, Newsmap, Maptalk. and other.channels. In some cases, the entire script is prepared at the Base I & E., as "This Week of War," broadcast by WVTF.
The factual news review is new and invigorating to radio journalism - a quiet and impersonal reporting which many U.S. listeners have long desired.
By using it here, the "Jungle Network" is not only serving GIs but encouraging postwar requirement.
WVTK PERSONNEL SELECTED
Opening of WVTK now seems a bit nearer. Staff assignments have been made.
Capt. Harmon O. Nelson, Jr., will be O/C; T/4 Karl Schmidt, program director; T/4 Ralph Lewis, announcer-writer; T/4 James McCracken, technician; T/5 Ray Carroll, announcer-writer; and T/5 Jerome Kaufherr, clerk-announcer.
There is possibility of a 300 Watt station.
"JUNGLE NETWORK" ADVANCES
PHILLIPINE ORIENTATION
With the ever-quickening flow of American troops into the Philippines, the Philippines Information Training Program is now in full motion through the "Jungle Network" and printed mediums of the Information & Education Section.
It is a high expression of that understanding which I & E seeks - the informed soldier acting upon adequate factual knowledge.
The consequence is that every officer and soldier who enters the Philippines carries a workable equipment of information concerning history, economics, customs and ideals. It creates the only goodwill which is secure and permanent - that which is the response to intelligent appreciation.
Every station of the "Jungle Network" should have it recorded here that they performed their phase of this important program with a sense of its value. Broadcasts were timed at peak listening hours, and the complete handling has been in measure with the total effectiveness of the whole I & E orientation program.
We are glad to say this while the broadcasts are yet in progress - to put the news into our files, now and herewith.
If there is enduring international understanding after the war, it will be due, in a substantial degree, to the knowledge which American soldiers carried to foreign lands and later home.
