A radio station run from a Himatangi Beach home has turned 10 amid big predictions for its future.
SeaBreeze FM, which was founded by Stu Frith in a converted garage behind his house in 2004, is going international with an American journalist joining the station for the first time tomorrow.
Victoria Gaither, who has won an Emmy for newscasting, will join the station for a fortnightly talk about news in the United States and New Zealand, and the differences between the countries.
"It's going to be big," Mr Frith said.
Mr Frith said in the 10 days since Gaither announced she would be involved with Seabreeze FM, the news had been reported on several websites.
He has hopes of attracting American listeners to his radio station and raising the profile of Himatangi Beach.
The station, broadcast from a mast behind Mr Frith's house, can be received by radios from as far away as Tangimoana, Foxton and Bainesse.
The station is also available online to listeners anywhere in the world.
A barbecue was held at the Frith home on Saturday to celebrate the station's 10th birthday, with Gaither beaming in via Skype.
"I'm really excited about it," she said of the show.
The first chat between Mr Frith and Gaither would be broadcast tomorrow, with the Washington journalist already talking about bringing the Himatangi DJ out to the US. She said there would be plenty for the pair to talk about because she was "amazed" at the number of stories from New Zealand getting a mention in the US.
Mr Frith met Gaither on Facebook after she commented on a mutual friend's page.
After explaining who he was the idea of bringing her to the station was born.
"If I hadn't been cheeky we would still have been in the background chugging along."
